Soundscapes of Hope
Shaping the Noise of Shelter Life

A shelter can be a loud, stressful place. Barking, doors opening and closing, equipment running, and people moving throughout the building create a constant wall of noise for the dogs in our care.

The speaker system currently serving Animal Care & Protective Services was installed about 17 years ago and was designed primarily for paging, not for creating an enriching audio environment. The aging system can produce uneven and distorted sound when what these dogs need is something calmer, cleaner, and more consistent.

That is what Soundscapes of Hope is about.

Forever Friends Jax is raising $5,500 to replace the outdated system with a modern audio setup that will provide clear, consistent sound throughout the shelter.

But this project is about much more than replacing speakers.

Bringing the Outdoors Inside.

Along with the new speaker system, a custom soundtrack will be curated specifically for the shelter.

The soundtrack will mimic the outdoors and change throughout the day, giving dogs natural environmental cues even while they are living inside the kennel environment.

Instead of playing the same music on repeat all day, the sound environment will evolve as the day does:

-
Morning: Birds, light wind, water, and other gentle nature sounds to recreate the feeling of the outdoors waking up.
-
Afternoon: Subtle traffic, outdoor activity, and everyday environmental sounds that reflect the busier middle of the day.
-
Evening: Warmer, slower soundscapes that help create a transition from an active day to a quieter evening.
-
Night: Crickets and soft nighttime sounds that mirror the natural outdoor environment and support a calmer period of rest.

The goal is not to add more noise. It is to create intentional sound that can help mask harsh shelter noises, provide enrichment, encourage rest, and make the kennel environment feel more predictable and comfortable.

Why It Matters.

Shelter dogs spend a significant amount of their day surrounded by sounds they cannot control or understand.

Creating a more natural and consistent audio environment is another way we can improve their experience while they wait for home.

This system will allow us to create different environments throughout the day rather than treating sound as background noise. It becomes part of how we care for the animals.

Our Goal: $5,500

This is a one-time investment expected to serve the shelter for years to come and impact thousands of dogs who will pass through ACPS.

One project.
Thousands of dogs.
Years of impact.
